1st Weybridge help the Countryside Team pulling Himalayan Balsam at Esher
Just before the Summer (2011) the children of 1st Weybridge Scouts spent a fun session helping the Countryside Team by pulling Himalayan Balsam at Esher.
Himalayan Balsam is a non-native plant from Asia that is threatening to destroy our native plants such as bluebells and snowdrops. It is a beautiful but very invasive plant that spreads really easily.
Our Cubs and Beavers are just a few of those who help by pulling up the large plants before the very efficient seed dispersal takes place. The Scouts get hugely enthusiastic about the whole process. Not only are they allowed to pull up plants, they are actively encouraged to see who can pull up the most in an hour!
